"It was a good season, but someone had to go home."
--Jon Strodtman.

We faught hard but once again, could not capitalize on our chances.

V @ Helias (Tie 1-1)

The Varsity is now 6-12-2.
The ladies Kewpies finished the season with a hard fought game against Helias. After giving up a goal in the first half the Kewpies came out and fought hard to tie the game up. The match would end in a 1-1 draw. Hickman will now begin preparation for districts.

JV @ Helias (L 0-2)

The JV finished their season 2-7-1.
Wow, what a game. I understand we lost, but we played our hearts out. We played our hearts out. I would like to stress again, this was not your last game, but your last game this year. Go out and find a team to play with, hit a ball, get lots of touches in the offseason and lets hit the ground running next spring!

V v Smith Cotton (L 0-1)

The Varsity is now 6-12-1.
Click here for the Tribune article.
Another tight, hard fought game that saw both teams have their chances. We were unlucky in our ability to find the back of the net. Smith Cotton took advantage of a single defensive lapse.

JV v Smith Cotton (W 1-0)

The JV is now 2-6-1.
:) WE WON! We finally found the back of the net off of Cassidy Janicek's foot with about 5 minutes remaining after dominating most of the game. It felt great to win the final home game of the season.

V @ Rock Bridge (L 0-2)

The Varsity is now 6-11-1.

We played well at times, but as a whole did not play like we could have or should have. We gave up two goals in the first half and were unable to respond.

JV @ Rock Bridge (L 0-3)

The JV is now 1-6-1.
We played well and were down 0-1 at half on a "shake her hand and congratulate her" goal. We came out fired up at half and played well again. Unfortunately, we gave up two more goals in the second half to lose 0-3.

V v Borgia (L 3-4 after PK's)

The Varsity is now 6-10-1.
Click here for the Missourian article.
We scored first and got of to a good start, but went flat and gave up three goals before coming back to tie the game just before the end of regulation. Unfortunately, we have not practiced penalty kicks yet for districts and our girls were not ready.

JV v Borgia (L 0-5)

The JV is now 1-5-1.
We worked hard, but could not overcome our defensive lapses.

V v Timberland (St Dom Tourn) (2-0)

The varsity is now 6-9-1.

A lot of hard work paid off as we scored two after peppering their goal most of the game. Good job, girls.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

V v O'Fallon (St Dom Tourn) (0-2)

Varsity is now 5-9-1.
Click here to see the Missourian article.

Two goals in the first half were the difference.

Monday, April 27, 2009

V @ St Dominic (Tournament) (0-2)

Varsity is 5-8-1.
We fought the good fight and played well, but were unable to capitalize on our chances after going down 0-2. Monica was a beast!

Saturday, April 25, 2009

V @ Smith-Cotton in Tourn (0-1)

The Varsity is now 5-7-1.
It was another good, hard fought game in the blazing wind. The girls should be very proud of themselves.

V v Glendale @ Smith-Cotton Tourn (2-1)

The Varsity is now 5-6-1.
A beautiful, clean, hard-fought game that saw us give up a 2nd minute goal. We tied it before half and won it in the 2nd half.

Friday, April 24, 2009

V v Ray-Pec @ Smith-Cotton Tourn. (0-0, 2OT)

The Varsity is now 4-6-1.
A hard fought game (literally at times) that was wind driven. A strong wind throughout the game was a major factor. We were unable to finish our chances and we stopped theirs. The girls gave everything they could have.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

V @ Jeff City (0-1)

Click here for the Missourian article.
The Varsity is now 4-6.
This was a hard fought match on both ends. Jeff City made the most of one of their scoring chances and we could not.

JV @ Jeff City (0-2)

The JV is now 1-4-1.
We played hard, but a couple of lapses in the first half led to goals. We were unable to capitalize on our opprtunities.

JV @ Francis Howell Central (0-0)

The JV is now 1-3-1.
While we did not take advantage of the chances we did have, this was a big game for us to come out and keep our heads up while not being able to score. This was a good tie for our team. We played the best game of our season (so far).

V @ Francis Howell Central (0-4)

Click here to see the Columbia Missourian article.
The Varsity is now 4-5.
After switching the Varsity game from after the JV to before the JV to try to avoid the rain, the Varsity lost 0-4.

V v Rock Bridge (0-1, 2OT)

Click here for the Missourian Article
Click here for the Tribune Article
The Varsity is now 4-4.
This was a hard fought game from the first whistle to the final whistle. It's a shame it had to end on a penalty kick at the end of the second overtime. Both teams had their chances, but both goalkeepers had an outstanding game. If you did not see Monica's save on the corner kick in overtime, find someone who recorded it. It was brilliant.

JV v Rock Bridge (0-6)

The JV is now 1-3.
We came out hard, but could not get any possession. That led to multiple scoring opportunities for Rock Bridge. The first goal was a beautiful strike. Unfortunately, defensive let downs and the lack of possession throughout the remaining 60 minutes led to each of the remaining goals.

V v Lee's Summit West (1-2)

Columbia Tribune article
Columbia Missourian article
The Varsity is now 4-3. We played hard, but the ball did not bounce in our favour. We gave up a goal about 20 minutes through each half. We will look to rebound strong against Rock Bridge on Monday.

JV v Lee's Summit West

Columbia Parks and Rec closed the park due to weather. The game was cancelled. The JV is still 1-2 on the season.

Saturday, April 4, 2009

V v Lindbergh (0-2)

The Varsity is now 4-2.
Similar to the JV, the varsity had to play against a quality team and a high speed wind after playing several games and a lot of traveling in the last week. They were fatigued. Unfortunately, two defensive mistakes allowed two goals. We are proud of the girls. We have played strong teams and are still 4-2.

JV v Lindbergh (0-4)

The JV is now 1-2.
After losing one player to a broken ankle, two to the ACT and another couple to injuries, we were down to 12 players. Unfortunately after playing the night before and the lack of bodies with fresh legs, we just did not have the stamina to play a game against a high level team and a high speed wind. Half time saw us down 0-2 and the second half we were simply out of energy.

Friday, April 3, 2009

V v Moberly (1-0)

Columbia Missourian article.
The Varsity is now 3-1.
This was a hard fought game between two good teams. It was unfortunate someone had to lose. We were just glad the Kewpies won. After 75 minutes of scoreless tie, Katie LaRue scored a hustle goal that was the only goal of the game. When asked by a reporter what single player turned the tide for the win, Coach G said, "No one. This was a team win."

JV v Moberly (3-1)

The JV is now 1-1.
This was a very competitive, hard fought game. We went down 0-1 at the 5th minute. It was great to see the girls go down a goal, but continue to fight and win a game. We scored the equalizer five minutes later when Aubrey and Cassidy served Lauren C. for a goal. We had several key saves by Lauren S. Annie scored unassisted off of a free kick in the 33rd minute to end the first half with a score of 2-1. In the 4th minute of the second half, Kaitlyn went down with a broken ankle and appears to be lost for the season. The ensuing drop ball led to a loose ball that Caroline and Claire E. fought Moberly for before Caroline was able to finish for the hustle goal.

Underdog--Life explained through Scrubs

V at Nerinx Hall (0-5)

The Varsity is now 3-1. Similar to the JV, the girls started off strong. There was an early goal in the first half, but that was all the scoring until the second half. The Kewpies had their chances keyed off of good pressure on the Nerinx backs by the strikers and midfielders, but were unable to capitalize. Nerinx broke through again in the 53rd minute, 55th minute and another two late goals that finished the game at 0-5.

JV at Nerinx Hall (0-7)

We are 0-1 this season. We started out strong, but when Nerinx scored their first goal, it seemed to take the wind out of our sails. We ended the first half down 0-6. There were some bright spots, while we gave up a lot of goals, the girls kept fighting and kept fighting highlighted by a good scoring opportunity and shot on goal to end the half as well as a ball that was cleared off our goal line by a defender late in the game. The girls came out strong again in the second half and only allowed one goal. We also had multiple scoring opportunities that we were unfortunate not to convert on.

Saturday's Rolla Tournament

All games on Saturday at the Rolla Tournament have been "postponed."

Results from Friday night are as follows:
1. Hickman (6 points)
2. Rolla & Washington (3 points)
4. Springfield Catholic (0 points)

We look forward to completing the 4 games that were not played on Saturday to complete the tournament (and hope to win).

Friday, March 27, 2009

V v Springfield Catholic (@ Rolla) (W 2-1)

The Lady Kewpies are now 3-0.

The girls came out ready to run and ready to fight from the starting whistle. That was great to see; necessary today. The first half was back and forth with physical battles all over the field. There was a total of three shots in the first half (two for Hickman, one for Catholic). Grace Grigg scored in the 20th minute off a free kick from the corner served by Edith Lopez. Catholic scored the equalizer on a chipped shot from about 18 yards in the 34th minute.

The second half was more of the same. The game ended with a total of seven shots on goal (four for Hickman, three for Catholic). Maggie Pace and Emily Darter had a great passing combination that led to a goal by Nicole Drenton. Monica Ross had several crucial saves in the second half that sealed the win for the Kewpies.

Thursday, March 26, 2009

V v Timberland (W 1-0)

The Lady Kewpies are now 2-0 on the young season.

The game started out slowly as the girls were showing fatigue from the bus ride. Timberland was focusing their attack on the right side of the Kewpie defense. The only real Kewpie offense were break outs from their left side attack. It took 25-30 minutes to play Kewpie soccer. Nicole Drenton scored the only Hickman goal in the 35th minute on a flick header over the charging Timberland keeper from a beautiful free kick by Lauren Kaufman.

The second half saw Hickman control the game, but unable to finish as they had several scoring opportunities hit goal poasts and several corner kicks result in shots going just wide.

Monica Ross registered her first shut out of the year with seven saves (three saves at key moments of the game).

JV GAME AT TIMBERLAND IS CANCELLED

We are sorry to announce that the JV game at Timberland for tomorrow, Thursday, 26 March has been cancelled. The Varsity will play at 4:00. JV is encouraged to go with the Varsity and support their teammates. We should be back around 8:00 in time for the Mizzou tip-off.

The Timberland JV is in a tournament that had a rain out on Tuesday night. Their game was moved to Wednesday. They won Wednesday and must now play Thursday (instead of playing us).

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

V v Pembroke Hill (W 4-2)

Click here to see the Columbia Daily Tribune article.

After starting slow in the first half and giving up an early goal in the 5th minute, the second 20 minutes showed what the Hickman Varsity was capable of in terms of passing and ball control. Unfortunately, the many scoring opportunities did not result in a goal. There were several wonderful saves from Monica Ross throughout the game, both in the first and second halves.

Once again, Hickman started slow and gave up a second goal early in the second half (48th minute). The second Pembroke Hill goal seemed to wake up the Hickman girls and they reacted for their own goal in the 51st minute by Edith Lopez's header from a throw in by Maggie Pace. The scoring continued as Edith Lopez converted a penalty earned by a foul on Nicole Drenton in the 55th minute. Edith completed her hat trick in the 76th minute as she finished a long free kick from Grace Grigg. Hickman completed the scoring when Jesse Loch finished another long ball from Grace Grigg.
